If you want to make a a few people happy at once: eat Christine’s gourmet toffee.
First, you’ll make yourself happy. :) Pick your flavor: bacon, butter, cashew, coffee, pecan or pistachio bars OR chocolate toffee bites. They’re all made with Wisconsin butter, Belgian chocolate and French sea salt. I love the pistachio flavor; Jeff demands the chocolate toffee bites. Choose your weapon!
Next, you’re going to make Leanne Cordisco happy. Leanne is the entrepreneur who runs the Popular Snacks business, which manufactures Christine’s gourmet toffee. She didn’t get into the candy business directly, however. She met with the late Sam Jacobsen, Madison businessman and PDQ founder to see if he would back her to start a wine accessory business.
Sam didn’t like wine, but he was looking for someone to run a candy company. It turns out that Sam’s mother, Christine – yes, that’s where the name comes in — used to make him homemade candies. Sam and Leanne used Christine’s recipes as the basis for their candy, so they honored her with naming the candy after her.
When Popular Snacks was founded, Sam insisted that 10% of the company’s profits go to the Sam Jacobsen Foundation, to enable other entrepreneurs to find their way. So eat a little more and you’ll make future entrepreneurs happy, too! :)
You can find Christine’s in Baraboo, Fitchburg, Hartland, Kewaskum, Kohler, Lake Geneva, Madison, Milwaukee, Milton, Mineral Point, Monroe, Mount Horeb, New Glarus, Paoli, Phillips, Prairie du Sac, Sauk City, Spring Green, Stevens Point, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, Wausau, Wisconsin Dells and Chicago. Wisconsinites aren’t the only ones who’ve tried Christine’s toffee (btw, there’s caramels, too). Christine’s was part of the 2011 Emmy swag bag, so actors and actresses like Lorrainne Bracco, Cloris Leachman, Aidan Quinnand Zach Woods, among others, got to enjoy the booty. Check out their photos and more on Christine’s site.
So stash some toffee in your cupboards for you, your friends and family. You’ll have the potential to make a lot of people happy.
Have a great weekend!
